Facilitating Energy Storage to Allow High Penetration of Intermittent Renewable Energy (stoRE)

Malachy Walsh and Partners is a member of a research consortium, organised by Wirtschaft und Inrastruktur GmbH & Co Planungs KG (WIP-Renewable Energies), which has been awarded research funding by the Executive Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation (EACI) under the SAVE, ALTENER and STEER Integrated Initiatives supported by Intelligent Energy Europe (EIE).

The project is divided into seven work packages:

• WP1 – Consortium Management
• WP2 – Technology and Needs Overview
• WP3 – Environmental Issues
• WP4 – Regulatory and market framework on a European level
• WP5 – Target countries analysis and recommendations
• WP6 – Communication
• WP7 – EACI Dissemination Activities

Malachy Walsh and Partners, in conjunction with the Sustainable Energy Research Group in University College Cork, is primarily involved in Work Package 3 – Environmental Issues and has a specific responsibility for the development of a Guidance Document for the development of Pumped Storage facilities in environmentally sensitive areas.
