Project Description

Malachy Walsh and Partners were commissioned by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine to act as Designers and PSDP on the provision of a heavy duty pontoon facility in the West Trawler Basin of Howth Fishery Harbour Centre for use by small fishing craft.  The development consisted of 110m of heavy duty pontoon, 11 CHS steel piles, a 25m long gangway and a concrete bankseat. The new heavy duty pontoons provide safer access to the quay side and an additional 110m of berthing face for smaller fishing vessels within the Trawler Basin. The Pontoons were designed for higher loadings both on the deck and also during berthing than for leisure marina type pontoons. The piles were socketed into the underlying rock and the bank seat was constructed within the existing quay face.  Malachy Walsh and Partners undertook the design, PSDP duties, contract document preparation, tender assessment and contract administration. In addition Malachy Walsh and Partners undertook a screening for Appropriate Assessment, procured a marine mammal risk assessment, and prepared a Natura Impact Statement for the development.
