Project Description

Tullahennel Wind Farm is a 13 Turbine Wind Farm located southwest of Ballylongford, Co. Kerry. The site is divided in two different land parcels with two very different characteristics; Tullahennel North and Tullahennel South.

Tullahennel North consisted of 4 turbines located in generally flat topography of relatively shallow peat and podzols underlain with stiff glacial tills.

Tullahennel South consisted of 9 turbines and ancillary infrastructure, constructed in peat depths of up to 8m. The deep peat brought many challenges necessitating the development of and pioneering large scale use of light weight floated roads using a hybrid solution of geogrids and timber logs to access the turbine locations.

A detailed peat stability risk assessment was completed to address the specific challenges presented by the site characteristics.
